Why did we need to make a good quality potting mix? 

As we all know that soil is the base of plants. Roots of all plants develop in soil from which it takes essential nutrients and water and sends these elements to every part of the plant. If the quality of the soil is good then the quality of the plant will be in a good manner. It depends on the soil how the plant will grow and look in the upcoming days. Normally the essential nutrients are present in the fertile soil where the plant is growing. But if we use a pot or a container the essential nutrients will be missing.

Because when we take soil from garden or a field in a pot. After watering it the soil gets compacted and compressed in the downward region. Then the soil start hardening due to compacting this leads to retaining the water upper side of the soil. Because of soil compacting and more water-retaining power the chance of fungal infection increases. Instead, if we apply fertilizer the plants are unable to grow properly. 

Due to the retaining of water, the pot becomes heavy and becomes difficult to shift from one place to other. Due to more amount of clay makes it sticky that's why it sticks in pots, hands, and gardening tools which results in difficult handling. Because of all the above reason taking soil from fields and gardens are a complete waste of time and hard work. That's why the soil that is low weight, porus, fast drainage, and long retention of water is best. The potting soil should also contain organic matter. 

Types of potting mix. 

There are two types of best potting mix. In the first, we have to add some other potting media to the soil. But in the second it is the opposite in that potting mix we have to add only soil-less potting media. So friends today I will tell you 6 best potting mix, in that 3 are with soil and 3 are without soil. Before starting I will tell you that  all potting mix will contains organic fertilizer.

Recipe of making Organic Mixture for Potting mix. 

So I am telling you the recipe of that organic fertilizer. This is a mixture of 5 different organic material.

1. Firstly we have to take wood ash in the quantity of 5% of the total volume means 1/20.
2. The second thing is bone meal which is made from animal's bone. If you are vegetarian then the alternative of bone meal is PROM (Phosphorous rich organic manure) fertilizer or rock phosphate. You have to take that 10%of total volume means 2/20.
3. The third thing is mustard cake powder . You can also take cotton seed cake powder, ground nut cake powder or sesame cake powder in place of mustard cake powder. You have to take it 15% of total volume means 3/20.
4. The fourth thing is tea leaf manure means the compost of use tea leaf. The article of making tea leaf manure will come soon on our website. In place of tea leaf manure you can take kitchen waste compost. You have to take it 25% of all value means 5/20.
5. The fifth and last thing is neem cake powder which you have to take 45 % of all volume means 9/20.Now you have to mix all these things.

Friends you have to add this mixture 2% to 2.5 % of that volume of potting mix. Friends now we are going towards the recipe of potting mix. In this recipe's we are going to add soil and some other soil less potting growing media. 

Recipe of making potting mix with soil. 

First method of potting mix with soil. 

In the first recipe of potting mix you have to take 20% normal garden soil, 40% coco peat if you don't know what is coco peat and want to make it at home then you can view that article , 10 % leaf mould, 10% rice husk and the last thing is 20% vermi compost. You should measure it by volume not by weight. You have to add 2% of that organic mixture. Now you have to mix all these things . While mixing all these things you have to spray some water by that the things will mix properly. This potting mix is the lightest weight from all potting mix. It is best for all small size plants and herbs.

Second method of potting mix with soil. 

In the recipe no. second you have to take 20% garden soil, 10% large stones, river sand, 40% coco peat, 30% vermi compost and 2% organic mixture. You can use this potting mix for all medium size plants. 

Third method of potting mix with soil. 

In the third potting mix you have take 40% normal garden soil, 20% large stones river stone, 10% rice husk, 30% vermi compost and 2% of organic mixture. This potting mix is best for large size plants. 

Recipe of making potting mix without soil. 

First method of potting mix without soil. 

In the first potting mix you have to take 50%    coco peat, 20% perlite, 10% vermiculite , vermi compost 20% and organic mixture 2% . Instead of perlite you can use rice husk and for vermiculite you can use leaf mould. It is best for all small size plants and herbs. 

Second method of potting mix without soil. 

In the second potting mix you have to take 40% coco peat, 10% rice husk or perlite, 10% vermiculite or leaf mould, 10% large stones rivers sand, 30% vermi compost and 2% organic mixture. You can use this potting mix fir all medium size plants.

Third method of potting mix without soil. 

In the third potting mix we have to take 30% coco peat, 10% perlite or rice husk, 10% vermiculite or leaf mould, 20% large stones river sand, 30 % vermi compost and 2 % of organic mixture. 

Important tips while using this potting mix. 

All the recipe's of potting mix are for only general purpose this potting mix is best for all plants excepting some specific type of plants.
